Codecs: Problems with movie downloads?

Are you having trouble playing the videos you download?
Most probably it is because you do not have the correct codec to view them.
A codec is software that to allows your video player to read some of the files you will find on downloaded internet movies. Although there are many codecs available to download today, here are a couple of the most popular ones, which are free to download:

Xvid Codec
DivX Codec
Media Player Codecs
Real Player - Scroll further down, download the player
Quicktime - Scroll further down, download the player

If you're not sure what codec you need for your file, download G-Spot, it will give you detailed info on your video files.

Codecs: Problems with movie downloads?

Don't have a program to watch your movies with?
While hard to believe, sometimes people don't have the program required to view your movie downloads. All operating systems come with a media player of some sort (some better than others). You may have more than one player installed on your computer at a time.
Here's a list of some of the popular players out there, all of them free to download:

Windows Media Player - Most mpeg and avi videos will work with version 6.4.
While you can download the latest version of Media Player,
version 6.4 has the least conflict with 3rd party codecs.

Apple QuickTime - Not many adult videos online in this format,
but mac users often use Quicktime to view mpeg and avi
(and if you want to watch a mainstream movie preview, you'll definitely need it...
most trailers are in this format)

Real PlayerNot my first pick for a player, in fact, if there's a video
that requires real player, I often just don't dowload it

Q. I'm sure most of you guys (or gals) out there have this same problem. I admit, I surf porn at least a couple times a week, but am afraid my wife/gf can find the sites I visit. I know how to delete my History and Cache folders, but some friend went through my computer and still pulled up all kinds of crap that didn't really get deleted. I know there are programs out there that must be able to take care of this stuff, but I haven't the slightest clue how to find them. I was wondering if you could help me.

A. Of course I could help. This is not a free program however, for it does a hell of a lot more then just clean out your cache and history, this is a full fledged program that erases all recorded information from internet surfing to documents accessed and stored web pages. Completely customizable. If you have a real concern about this. then maybe you should think about getting this program. It is called Evidence Eliminator and does all the following, and more...

  • Clears out your Run and Find menu from the Registry
  • Options to clear recently recorded Windows activities
  • Clear out information from Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mail
Q. I am using a free dial-up Internet account which has banners at the top. There banners seem to be slowing my connection speed down. I like downloading movies, but at this speed, I'm kinda stuck downloading JPEG's instead, lol. Is there any way to change settings to make my pages and download go faster?

A. There are programs out there that you can download which help to speed up the movies you download. These are known as download accelerators. Try this Download Accelerator, it is free and should do the trick.
Q. I read on your help page [this page] about the video file converters. I have a similar problem. Some files I have downloaded are actually text files (.txt) and I can't see them. I downloaded these programs but they can't do anything with this file. Is the file useless then?

A. No, the file is NOT useless, it can be fixed. This is a case of "a site which offers movies when their server does not allow them too". Some servers our there don't let sites have movies because it would cost them too much, so those people rename their movies from *.avi (or *.mpeg) to *.txt instead, that way the server has no idea it is actually a movie. What you can do for that is to simply rename your .TXT file to .AVI, and if that doesn't work, try renaming it to .MPG or .MPEG (though usually it is a .AVI they rename). Just right-click on your file and choose the "rename" option. If your computer does not show the file extension (.txt), then before doing that, do the following... Open 'My Computer', go to 'Tools' -> 'Folder Options' -> 'View" tab -> uncheck the setting that says 'Hide file extensions for known file types'.
